General ultrasound examinations

Ultrasound scans are diagnostic procedures that use high-frequency sound waves to visualise the internal structure of the body. Ultrasound waves bounce off tissues in the body and the reflected signals are converted into images by a computer. This helps doctors examine organs, tissues, or blood vessels without the need for surgery. Ultrasound scans have a wide range of applications, from pregnancy checks to assessing the condition of organs and tissues. Our tests are only carried out from the age of 12!

  • Abdominal and pelvic ultrasound

    • Kidneys
    • Liver
    • Gallbladder, Bile ducts
    • Pancreas
    • Spleen
    • Bladder
    • Large abdominal vessels
    • Intestinal tract to a more limited extent

Abdominal ultrasound imaging is performed to evaluate: e.g., liver disease with circumscribed nodular disease, inflammatory disease in some cases. Gallstones, biliary strictures, biliary wall abnormalities. Kidney stones, renal cavity dilatation. Pyelonephritis. Cysts. Pancreatitis, tumours. Bladder wall abnormalities, tumours. During abdominal ultrasound scans, no food should be eaten 6 hours before the scan. You may drink water or tea. Liquid intake is recommended before the scan. Come to the examination with a full bladder.

  • Joint ultrasound

    • Tendon ruptures, tendonitis of the rotator cuff in the shoulder
    • Achilles tendon in the ankle and many other tendons in the body
    • Muscle tears, abnormalities or fluid retention
    • Stretched or torn ligaments
    • Inflammation or fluid in the bursae and joints
    • Early signs of rheumatoid arthritis
    • Pinched nerves, e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome
    • Benign and malignant soft tissue tumours
    • Ganglion cysts
    • Hernias
    • Foreign bodies in soft tissues (e.g. splinters or glass fragments)

The joint ultrasound scan is an important tool in diagnosing joint problems. This type of examination helps our doctors to assess the internal structure and condition of the joints and surrounding soft tissue, and to diagnose any lesions or injuries. The most common joint scans include knee and shoulder scans. Additionally, elbow, wrist, ankle, hand and foot joints can be well examined. It is also a suitable method for examining the joints around the sternum. To a more limited extent, certain hip abnormalities can also be assessed.

  • Cervical soft tissue ultrasound scan

    • Thyroid gland
    • Cervical soft tissues
    • Large salivary glands
    • Neck muscles
    • Cervical lymph nodes
    • Testicles and scrotum
    • Muscles
    • Tendons and ligaments
    • Superficially palpable lesions, "lumps" under the skin

Examination of the thyroid gland and the soft tissues of the neck can provide valuable information about various nodular, inflammatory diseases of the thyroid gland. The salivary glands will also be examined to identify inflammatory diseases, circumscribed lesions or salivary gland stones. The lymph nodes of the region will also be reviewed during the examination. Soft tissue ultrasound is used to examine muscles, ligaments, tendons and other soft tissues. Muscle ultrasound is an important tool for assessing the condition of muscle tissue and diagnosing various muscle problems.

  • Vessels - vascular scans

    • Carotid Doppler
    • Upper limb arteries, veins
    • Lower limb arteries, veins
    • Cimino fistula control, pre-operative planning
    • Large abdominal vessels
    • Kidney artery

A cervical colour Doppler scan is a special type of ultrasound scan that uses colour Doppler ultrasound technology to examine the blood vessels in the neck and assess their blood flow. This test allows our doctors to examine the blood flow in the carotid arteries and veins and assess their condition and possible abnormalities. A limb color Doppler test is an ultrasound procedure that uses color Doppler technology to examine the vasculature of the limbs (such as the arms and legs) and assess their blood flow. It can be used to map the arteries and veins of the limbs and assess their condition and possible abnormalities.
